For the adults, while there are dining and shopping places to explore in the greater Norwood Park neighborhood, Oriole Park is primarily residential and the quiet blocks that form this northwest side community are adorned with single-family homes.

Where is Oriole Park?

Oriole Park encompasses the southwestern part of the Norwood Park community and is in close proximity to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, which is just west of the neighborhood. Its boundaries include the Kennedy Expressway (I-90) to the north, Harlem Ave to the east, N Canfield Ave to the west and Foster Ave to the south, with a small sliver of a few blocks that extend further south to Argyle St.

 

The area includes the zipcodes of 60631 and 60656 and forms a great portion of the 41st Ward.

Oriole Park Transportation

Accessing Oriole Park via public transit is possible via the CTA blue line train at Harlem Ave and the bus routes of #88 Higgins, #90 Harlem, and #92 Foster. Oriole Park residents who rely on the commuter rail, are closest to the Norwood Park Metra station. 

 

Forming its northern border, the Kennedy Expressway (I-90) makes getting to and from Oriole Park by car quick and easy, and is a straight shot to O’Hare International Airport to the west and downtown Chicago to the east.

This breakfast restaurant is a popular morning spot, so there may be a slight wait. Get active by walking through and around Oriole Park (5430 N Olcott Ave). Pop into Nottoli Italian Foods (5025 N Harlem Ave)  just off of Harlem Ave and south of Foster Ave for a delightful deli sandwich like prosciutto and provolone, or signature hot subs like the spicy sicilian or Italian sandwiches. You can also shop the deli for some meats and cheeses to take home. While you may have to travel a little outside of Oriole Park, you can enjoy dinner at Sapori Napoletana Pizza e Ristorante (6050 N Northwest Hwy) for some pasta and Neapolitan individual, pizzas prepared in a wood burning oven.

Residents of Oriole Park may be limited on dining options within the neighborhood boundaries, but they benefit from proximity to restaurants in the greater Norwood Park neighborhood and other communities nearby. Here are some spots to add to your must-try list.

 

  • Dino's Italian Pizza & Italian Restaurant (7004 W Higgins Ave) - a neighborhood pizza restaurant serving customers in the community for 50 years.

 

  • Mather’s—More Than a Café (7134 W Higgins Ave) - one of three locations in Chicago, this cafe is more than that, as its name implies, catering to the 50+ crowd offering classes and workshops along with its meals.

 

  • Polish Paczki Cafe (7210 W Foster Ave) - a modern take on traditional Polish dishes are served at this small strip mall cafe.

 

  • Portillo’s Hot Dogs (7308 W Lawrence Ave) - this popular Chicago establishment has a location just a short distance from Oriole Park in Harwood Heights, making it easy to pick up an Italian beef, a Chicago-style hot dog, milkshake and a slice of chocolate cake.

As a small pocket of the Norwood Park community area, Oriole Park residents have amenities within reach, including Oriole Park (5430 N Olcott Ave) which is the neighborhood’s central fixture and for which the area is named. 

 

Families also have the choice of Oriole Park Public School (5424 N Oketo Ave) for the education of their grade school kids. 

 

For groceries, there’s a Jewel-Osco (7342 W Foster Ave) at the southeast corner of the neighborhood in the Harlem-Foster Shopping Center. Also, in that collection of shops are fitness studios and gyms such as Evolve Yoga & Fitness Chicago (7252 W Foster Ave) and Planet Fitness (7300 W Foster Ave).
